So remember a couple of days ago when we told you about Barack Obama's decision to ban 'microbeads' in America? Well, it got us thinking. And as there's currently no plans to get scrapping the little balls of planet-destroying plastic in the UK just yet - we wanted to offer you some all natural alternatives. Y'know, so you can still get a good scrub in the morning but also not kill the environment. Yay.
Enter: buffing grains (or cleansing grains, same thing) They're the NATURAL alternative to microbeads in beauty products - which can be made up of anything from coffee grains to walnut shells. Whether bought dry, or as a pre-made exfoliator; here are our favourites for a guilt-free scrub:
Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Gentle Exfoliating Facial Scrub, £5.99
Bobbi Brown Buffing Grains for Face £30.00
Ole Henriksen Walnut Complexion Scrub, £26.00
frank body Original Coffee Scrub, £11.95
Origins Never A Dull Moment Skin-Brightening Face Polisher, £25.00
With all natural ingredients like oats, nuts, seeds, herbs, or clay powder - cleansing grains are pretty easy to DIY too. Blitz together oats with peppermint or chamomile in a blender and combine a handful with water for a gentle but gritty face scrub.
