The backstage beauty areas at fashion week are the ultimate place for learning new tips and tricks from the makeup artist elite. From multi-tasking makeup to nail art hacks, here's our favourite new finds from the beauty big dogs themselves:
Apply glitter with lip balm
Glitter was everywhere on the AW16 runways, and it turns out that the easiest way of applying it is with the help of lip balm. Lucy Burt, the makeup maestro backstage at Markus Lupfur used Maybelline's Baby Lips Lip Balm on the skin, before pressing the glitter on top.
Use eyeliner for nail art
Backstage at Julien Macdonald, the models nails were kept nude and glossy with a slick of black for a twist on the classic French manicure. Nail technician Jenny Draper used black liquid eyeliner to achieve a super slick black tip.
Double up your eyeliner as a lip pencil
Sounds a bit mad, but over at Daks makeup artist Maria Comparetto was lining models lips with brown eyeliner and blending it out for a soft and natural effect. Oh, and it worked like a charm.
Always use primer
Backstage at PPQ, the models skin was kept super dewy and strobed using Model's Own highlighters. Makeup artist Liz Martins revealed that the key to keeping skin dewy and not shiny is to always use a primer.
Layer up your liner
Whether you're going bold like the neon look at Marques'Almeida or keeping it smokey like Julien Macdonald - all the makeup artists agree that the key to keeping your liner in place and poppin' is by layering it up with eyeshadow. Terry Barber at Marques'Almeida applied a neon pigment over a wax based eye pencil to help the colour pop, while Val Garland layered the black graphic liner look at Julien Macdonald with extra eyeshadow to keep it in place.
