Weirdly enough, there's a lot you can tell about your health just by looking at your nails. From vitamin deficiencies to being generally clumsy- there's a lot goin' on under that nail varnish that could tell you a lot about your health.
So wipe off that pink polish and give your nail beds a reeeeally good inspection 'cos here's 4 things your nails might be trying to tell you about your general health and wellbeing.
If your nails are yellow - it's probably due to staining from wearing dark (or red) coloured nail polishes. Give 'em a break for a few days in between varnish sessions to keep them looking pink and healthy all year round. (PS. Your nails also turn yellow from smoking, so there's another reason not to start)
You've probably heard that white spots on your nails mean you're calcium deficient and you need to drink more milk - but that's actually more of a myth than actual fact. White spots on your nails are usually caused by some kind of trauma to the nail bed - like banging it against something.
Dry and brittle nails
If your nails are brittle and flaky it could be due to a number of things. If you swim a lot then the extra exposure to moisture can cause nails to get dry and brittle. If you live in an especially low-humidity environment, this can also affect nail health. OR dry and cracked nails could be due to not getting enough vitamins in your diet. Up those green veggies.
Extremely pale nail beds
If your nails are weirdly pale in colour - this could be due to an iron deficiency or anaemia. Try adding more spinach to your diet or take a iron supplement and if it doesn't improve, go see your doctor.
