Long, hot showers

Everyone loves a steaming hot shower - but turns out that too hot water wreaks havoc on our skin. Super hot water strips away the outermost layer of the epidermis, causing skin to become dry and scaly. Turn the temperature down a notch or too for a skin-friendly shower. 

Sleeping in your makeup

Alright so this one is OBVIOUS but it's also the biggest culprit of spots so you NEEEED to stop doing it. Keep a micellar water and some cotton wool pads next to your bed so that you never have an excuse to forget. It takes 30 seconds, just dooooo it. 

Not properly testing out your new products

Bought a new foundation and found that you're suddenly breaking out all over? It could be because you're sensitive to some of the ingredients. Road-test new products the week before by dabbing a small amount on the inner bit of your elbow - if after a week you've had absolutely no reaction: you're good to go.

As if we needed another reason to remind you how lame diets are, but yo-yo diets (and just not eating enough in general) is a SURE fire way to developing a load of spots. Your skin needs nutrients, vitamins, minerals and a hella load of water to remain clear - so up those veggies.

Okay so sometimes it's hard to de-stress, but if you're feeling anxious or stressed - no doubt your skin is too. Go for a run, have a heart-to-heart with a pal or play with some puppies. Anything that'll de-stress you will make a huge difference to your skin too.

If you suffer from acne, it can be tempting to go in with super harsh cleansing products, skin-stripping acids and deep cleaning exfoliators, but actually these will only make your skin worse. Spotty skin needs gentle skincare, because using anything that's overly harsh will end up stripping the skin - and cause more oil to be produced in it's place.
