Legendary British actor Alan Rickman very sadly passed away yesterday morning aged 69, and every single generation from teens to grandparents have been left heartbroken by the devastating news.
He'll be remembered fondly for endless brilliant roles in classics like Robin Hood, Die Hard and Love Actually, but his younger audience will of course always cherish him for his part as Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films.
With almost all of Hogwarts paying heartfelt tribute to Alan yesterday, his magical goodbye letter to Harry Potter fans penned in 2011 has re-merged online.
The note was written for Empire magazine five years ago shortly after wrapping Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, and reading about his memories of filming and his deep love for Snape's character which he so brilliantly portrayed will make your heart ache.
"I have just returned from the dubbing studio where I spoke into a microphone as Severus Snape for absolutely the last time…" Alan writes in the note to JK Rowling and fans everywhere.
"It is an ancient need to be told stories. But the story needs a great storyteller. Thanks for all of it, Jo."
We're not crying, you are.
