YouTube channels nowadays range from everything from daily vlogs to gaming walkthroughs to crafting tutorials to short films, and to be honest, it's a tragedy that there aren't many books that feature characters with YouTube channels.

So we asked author Alice Oseman to tell us which of 'em she reckons need to get vlogging asap.

If you've read my new book, Radio Silence, you'll know that one of the characters is a YouTuber (not gonna tell you who… you'll have to read it to find out!) And this got me thinking – what if characters we know and love started a YouTube channel? What sort of channel would they run? What would they talk about in their videos? Would they become YouTube famous?

Without further ado: here are my top 10 characters that NEED to start a YouTube channel.

10. TECH TUTORIALS WITH ARTEMIS FOWL.

To be honest, if my computer breaks down, there is no one I would trust more to help me fix it than self-proclaimed genius Artemis Fowl. Unfortunately, Artemis Fowl is more likely to spend his time exploiting the fairy underworld than helping the technologically-unintelligent fix their appliances.

9. POTION TUTORIALS WITH HERMIONE GRANGER.

Hermione has such passion and love for the magical world. Add this to the fact that she's super intelligent, and bam – potion tutorials. I don't think there are many people out there who wouldn't want to know how to make a Felix Felicis potion. I could certainly use one of those for my final university exams this year.

8. GAMING LET'S-PLAYS WITH WADE WATTS.

Wade Watts of Ernest Cline's Ready Player One gets to visit an artificial reality every day. As someone who was moderately obsessed with Digimon as a child and is currently obsessed with The Sims, I'd give anything to watch Wade – an expert gamer – navigate this monumental digital world.

7. SHORT FILMS WITH BLUE SARGENT.

Blue of The Raven Cycle series doesn't have any particular interest in film or photography, but the spooky, history-drenched world Maggie Stiefvater describes is so beautiful that I can totally imagine Blue capturing that on camera. Possibly in black and white, set to some emotional acoustic cover of an eighties pop hit.

6. LOOKBOOKS WITH HARRIET MANNERS.

Despite being an internationally successful model, Harriet Manners of the Geek Girl series does not quite conform to, erm, typical tastes in high fashion. I'd love to see a lookbook video of Harriet showing off her favourite outfits; colourful leggings and Winnie the Pooh jumpers and all.

5. FANDOM NEWS WITH CATH AVERY.

Cath Avery of Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl knows everything there is to know about the 'Simon Snow' series and its fandom. I bet there would be hoards of fellow fans that she could make videos for, updating everyone on fandom news and discussing the series and, of course, advertising her Carry On fan fiction.

4. BOOK REVIEWS WITH LIESEL MEMINGER.

I couldn't think of a character with more passion for books than The Book Thief's Liesel Meminger. I can imagine her rambling for ages about her thoughts on each book she reads. If only the internet had existed in the twentieth century…

3. DIARY VLOGS WITH TORI SPRING.

Maybe this is a bit cheeky, but I'd totally want to see my own character, Tori Spring, the protagonist of my first novel Solitaire, record her thoughts and feelings in diary vlogs. I think it'd probably have helped her, and prevented her from keeping everything bottled up inside!

2. TRAVEL VLOGS WITH BILBO BAGGINS.

In The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins goes on one of the most epic journeys in literature's history, and I personally would love to see that recorded in travel vlogs. If The Hobbit films are anything to go by, I bet the scenery would be outstandingly beautiful!

1. DAILY VLOGS WITH LIZZIE BENNET.

Most Popular

Lastly, I'd LOVE to see some daily vlogs from Lizzie Bennet. Her sarcastic, snappy, cynical outlook on her regency-era world would make some absolutely hilarious videos. And if the success of the YouTube series 'The Lizzie Bennet Diaries' is anything to go by, I think her videos would garner a lot of views…
