If there's nothing you love more than getting carried away by a fantasy read, you'll be pleased to hear that Amy Alward, the author of The Potion Diaries, has compiled a list of books that'll whisk you away from reality.

With Amy's brand new book, The Potion Diaries: Royal Tour, being released tomorrow (11th August for anyone reading this in the future) it looks like we're seriously going to be testing the strength of our bookshelf this week.

1. The Wrath & The Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

I loved this YA fantasy inspired by the story of Shahrazad and One Thousand and One Nights. Lush, rich storytelling pared with thrilling magic (and a flying carpet), this is definitely one to pick up.

2. A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas

Oh Sarah, Sarah, Sarah… why do you break my heart? This Beauty and the Beast retelling has grown into so much more, and if you haven't spent time with Feyre, Tamlin and Rhysand you're in for such a treat.

3. Uprooted by Naomi Novik

Naomi Novik has been one of my favourite authors since Temeraire and Uprooted is different – but does not disappoint. A little bit fairytale, a little bit subversive and a lot gripping.

4. A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

A fantastic addition to the magical London canon, I was swept into Schwab's caper through multiple Londons. With memorable characters and unique magic, check this out immediately.

5. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

This is a bit less overtly magical/ fantastical than some of the other books on the list, but no less FANTASTIC. A series to get hooked on.

6. Riverkeep by Martin Stewart

Fan of Patrick Ness? Neil Gaiman? Jaws? You need Riverkeep in your life – it's dark, atmospheric and beautifully written. An impressive debut.

7. Half Bad by Sally Green

Witches have never been more enticing. This series rocked the global publishing scene (acquiring a Guinness World Record for most translated debut book in the process) – and it was very well deserved.

8. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

An incredible, brutal-but-beautiful YA fantasy debut that gripped me and wouldn't let go! Inspired by ancient Rome and yet totally unique in its own right.

9. The Novice by Taran Matharu

Are you addicted to PokemonGO? This is the book for you! Totally immersive, epic; exciting fantasy by one of the UK's hottest new fantasy authors.

10. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

What's the one fantasy debut that's taken the world by storm? Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. It totally lives up to the hype: dangerous, thrilling and page-turning.

We'd like them all, thanks.
