Girl Meets World star Rowan Blanchard took to Twitter over the weekend to confide in fans about her sexuality, taking the brave decision to reveal that she identifies as queer.
In a screenshot of a tweet posted on Saturday, Rowen explained that while she's only ever been attracted to boys so far in her life, she's refusing to be labelled as straight or gay and will be "just existing" from now on.
"In my life – only ever liked boys," Rowan wrote in the image of a tweet draft. "However I personally don't wanna label myself as straight, gay or whatever so I am not gonna give myself labels to stick with – just existing."
It basically means that Rowan doesn't quite feel she fits into any of the societal norms when it comes to relationships, and won't be sticking herself into any prescribed categories just to conform. When asked by a follower if she was open to liking another gender, Rowan agreed.
"Yes, open to liking any gender in future is why I identify as queer," she wrote.
It's pretty awesome to see 14 year old Rowan feeling comfortable enough in herself to talk so openly and honestly about her personal decisions, and the good news is that the large majority of responses were super supportive and grateful to her for speaking out. AWOO.
Rowan's become a pretty amazing gal over the past year, emerging as a strong and important role model who isn't afraid to speak out on big issues such as race and feminism.
Loving ya work, Row. What do you reckon to her decision to come out as queer? Let us know with a tweet to @Sugarscape.
