The 1975's Matty Healy has clarified his recent comments regarding Ms. Taylor Swift - insisting that the quotes were taken out of context and were NOT misogynistic.
The quote in question appeared in an interview with Q magazine, in which Matty was reported as saying: "It's just interesting to me how interested the world is about Taylor Swift.
"The reason I mention that is because if I had [properly] gone out with Taylor Swift, I would've been, 'F***ing hell, I am not being Taylor Swift's boyfriend.
"You know, "F**k. That'. That's also a man thing, a de-masculinating, emasculating thing."
Many - yes, including us - interpreted this as Matty saying that dating a powerful woman more successful and famous than himself would in some way make him less of a man, which is obviously capslock-worthy NOT COOL.
However, Matty's explained that that's not the case, in a v. long Twitter post captioned: "READ THIS I'M PISSED OFF."
"I said that I felt the idea of being 'someone's boyfriend' before establishing myself as an artist in my own right would feed into the type of dinosaur thinking that all men are afflicted with," he explained. "NEWSFLASH!!!!! Men are stupid and sometimes think about stuff like that."
Fair enough. What do you make of all this?
