When Cara Delevingne took a step back from the modelling bizz last year, it looked as though she'd turned her back on the fashion industry for good in favour of focusing on her acting career.
She's always been open about the job taking its toll on her mental health, but after making an unexpected comeback this week, she's now opened up about the real relationship between modelling and her depression.
Speaking candidly on Twitter about her own mental health, Cara decided that it was time to set the record straight on a few things – particularly the idea thatfashion had CAUSED her depression, which she insists just ain't the case.
"Can we just set the record straight," Cara tweeted yesterday. "I never said I was quitting modelling."
Opening up about her personal issues, she continued: "I do not blame the fashion industry for anything. I suffer from depression and was a model during a particularly rough patch of self hatred.
"I am so lucky for the work I get to do but I used to work to try and escape and just ended up completely exhausting myself."
Explaining that she's working on her state of mind now and recognising her triggers, Cara said: "I am focusing on filming and trying to learn how to not pick apart my every flaw. I am really good at that."
Back in October, Cara confessed at the 2015 Women In The World Summit that she had been feeling "completely suicidal", and her job in the fashion industry was widely reported as the cause of her struggle.
"I also realised how lucky I was, and what a wonderful family and wonderful friends I had, but that didn't matter," she admitted at the time. "I wanted the world to swallow me up, and nothing seemed better to me than death."
It sounds as though Cara made the right decision in recognising that she needed to change her environment to help get back on top of her mental health issues, and it's even more awesome that she's speaking out about her depression now.
