The news that Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are set to divorce has taken a shocking and upsetting turn, as Amber has now filed for a restraining order against Johnny after accusing him of repeated domestic violence throughout their marriage.
The restraining order, which has been granted by a Los Angeles judge, follows Amber's statement that she was "violently attacked" on Saturday night after Johnny struck her around the face with a mobile phone. Images of Amber's bruise were submitted to the court, and have since been circulating online, having originally been posted by TMZ.
Amber has also claimed that Johnny offered her money to keep quiet about Saturday's attack, but that she refused to accept the offer and instead filed for divorce on the Monday morning.
Her official statement goes into detail about the long-standing abuse within their relationship: "During the entirety of our relationship, Johnny has been verbally and physically abusive to me. I endured excessive emotional, verbal and physical abuse from Johnny, which has included angry, hostile, humiliating and threatening assaults to me whenever I questioned his authority or disagreed with him."
Johnny's team have issued a denial to Amber's claims, stating that she is "an affront to real victims of domestic violence." Meanwhile, Amber has claimed that Johnny's dependence on drugs and alcohol fuelled his violent behaviour: "Johnny's paranoia, delusions and aggression increased throughout our relationship. So has my awareness of his continued substance abuse."
