Demi Lovato has taken to Twitter to apologise for a Snapchat she posted over the weekend, which showed her mum making a joke about the Zika virus.
In the video, Demi's mum Dianna Hart uses a funny voice to say: "Everybody down in Rio gonna get the Zika virus."
If you didn't already know, there was a lot of conversation ahead of the Olympic Games in Rio and travel advisory warnings have been issued to those heading to Brazil and surrounding countries in the region.
This is because they are currently affected by the Zika virus epidemic. It particularly affects pregnant women and if they are bitten by a mosquito carrying the virus and then contract it, it can severely impact fetal development, which has lead to many babies in South and Central America in particular being born with life-impacting defects.
Being such a serious health issue, it's not a surprise that some were unimpressed with the joke Demi's mum made and with the singer heard laughing in the background of the video, fans took to Twitter to share their distaste.
Having seen the reaction and realised that perhaps this wasn't the funniest thing to post, Demi has now apologised for the video.
"In no way did I mean to offend anyone last night. I was laughing at how southern my mom sounded, not the issue at hand. Deepest apologies," she said in the Twitter post.
She adds: "If you watch everything I do, you're still a fan.. I ain't goin nowhere bitches."
