Britain's Got Talent faces 'talent fixing' claims following rumours One Direction songwriter Ed Drewett to audition

He might have already released music of his own and written for Olly Murs, The Wanted and even penned One Direction's Best Song Ever, but apparently singer-songwriter Ed Drewett is still set to appear as an auditionee on the current series of Britain's Got Talent.

But while he's yet to appear on the show, there are rumours that alongside the rule change that allows professionals to enter the show, Ed was actually scouted by producers to appear.

What with the whole point of the show being to find talent from the Great British public that might not ever be seen otherwise, the idea of producers picking out acts to audition does seem a bit confusing. At the same time, scouting doesn't necessarily guarantee they will get through if the judges and voters don't like the acts, but arguably does mean people who are talented but perhaps haven't had the widespread success they could get a chance to show what they're made of.

Still, Ed, who has previously released music through Polydor and Virgin alongside writing for artists including 1D, was apparently asked to audition on the show after Simon Cowell became interested in his story.

''Simon is keen to sign Ed to his Syco record label but wants him to gain exposure on 'BGT' first," a show insider apparently told The Sun.

"Ed is a mate of 1D too, so they're likely to tweet in support during the live finals". 

"The move raises big questions about the audition process and highlights how many acts are scouted, rather than apply in the normal way," the source added.

According to the source, Ed was open about his past successes and professional career during his audition in front of the judges, so it's not like they've tried to keep things quiet.
