So what's it all about then?

Questionable singer-songwriter/busker-type Steve (James Corden) single-handedly changes his pal Greta's (Keira Knightley) life when he practically forces her to perform at an open mic night in Manhattan. While she's initially well nervous about the whole thing, what she doesn't realise is that Dan (Mark Ruffalo) - a former record label exec - just so happens to be in the same and spots her talents. Think Simon Cowell at Cher Lloyd's first audition, basically.

Bonding over their love of music, Dan and Greta practically become BFFs. Seeing big things for her, he approaches his former label in a bid to get her signed. When they ain't too keen, the pair decide to record an album incorporating the sounds of real-life New York City. But will cheaty boyfriend Dave (Maroon 5's Adam Levine) and loads of industry politics get in her way? OOH.

Anyone good in it?

Er, you could say that. There's Keira Knightley actually SINGING (more on that in a bit), the quite-hilarious and-heartbreaking-at-the-same-time Mark Ruffalo, James Corden being bloody amazing *and* Adam Levine off of Maroon 5 making his big movie debut. PHEW-EE.

Oh, and CeeLo Green's in it too.

If it won any Oscars they would be for...

Keira Knightley's singing. Actually, that'd be a Grammy wouldn't it? ANYWAY - we were genuinely shocked the the point of pouring popcorn over the fittie next to us at Keira's voice. have we never heard this before? At the open mic night which kicks off the whole bloody journey, Keira performs a little acoustic tune called Step You Can't Take Back, and while we initially thought this might've been a Zac Efron High School Musical-type dubbing scenario, APPARENTLY NOT. She's actually got a bloody good pair of lungs on her. Who'da thought?

But these bits should have been left on the cutting room floor...

D'ya know what? We weren't actually bored once. The whole flick was pretty compelling and the narrative just wouldn't work if anything was given the snip. We could *probably* do without the whole repetition of the first scene about a gazillion times, but that's about it.

Actual 'ohmygod I nearly wet myself laughing' bits?

Quite a few, actually. As with most rom coms, for every EHHHMAGAHDDD WE'RE GONNA KIM KARDASHIAN UGLY CRY moment, there's a bit of a LOL. Most of these come from James Corden's character Steve, to be honest. Whether it's his dodgy busking or efforts to support his pal Greta, he's bloody hilarious and we would quite like to love and marry him thank you very much.

After watching this, on the manly-man scale of Louis Tomlinson-Sylvester Stallone we felt like...

Probs Liam Hensworth. But we wish we were feeling Adam Levine, if you get what we mean...

Final verdict:

3.5 stars.

Begin Again's a super-sweet rom com-meets-musical drama that had us laughing, almost crying and thinking 'D'ya know what? We bloody love life.' It's a feel-good flick with friendship, love and loss at its heart. Packed with absolute tunes we pretty much need on our iPod RIGHT NOW (cheer Keira babes), it's a bit of an emotional rollercaoster that'll no doubt leave you with the warm fuzzies. Oh, and it also makes us want to live in New York the same way Friends made us want to nab ourselves a Green Card.
