An autistic singer has told of how her X Factor audition ruined her life and left her feeling suicidal, with her mum branding her appearance on the show "the worst thing she could have done".
A judge had heard how a 20-year-old girl, who was a teenager at the time of audition, was left mortified by her performance - which caused her to drop out of college and start displaying "risky behaviour".
Mr Justice Cobb was told of how the girl got hate mail and became involved with unsuitable men who targeted her online following the show, with her social workers becoming so concerned about the teen that they asked a court to consider if she was capable of making her own decisions.
This is horrific.
Mr Justice Cobb said she was now 20 and appeared on the show more than three years ago. He commented: "Sadly she now regards the experience as humiliating and she is embarrassed by her performance. She dropped out of college and became depressed.
"She started to display risky behaviours."
It's thought men started to contact her on social media, and the judge said at that stage the woman's mental capacity to "process key decisions" had been "significantly in question".
Awful, awful story.
