Ian Somerhalder has gone and dropped a major bombshell which is guaranteed to ruin the day of any fans of The Vampire Diaries, because according to him and his cheekbones, the show is ending for good after next season. WHAT.
It's still completely unofficial news if you want to get technical about it, but long-time star of the show Smoulder-halder pretty much confirmed that the eighth series of TVD will see a stake driven straight through its heart.
Ian shocked fans of The Vampire Diaries while talking at WalkerStalkerCon in Nashville on Sunday, telling fans that not only will his beautiful face disappear from their televisions, but the entire show itself will be finishing after Season 8.
According to the convention's official Twitter account, Smoulder-halder spilled: "We have decided to do one last season to really do the story justice."
You'd assume the star of the show would know what's going on behind the scenes, but when reached for comment on Sunday, a spokesperson for the show told Variety that "no decision has been made" about The Vampire Diaries' fate.
Ian's big bombshell does kinda make sense though, as just a few days ago Kat Graham also revealed that season eight would be her last.
Kat aka Bonnie Bennett told Us Weekly: "Season eight will be my last season. I just hope that whatever I do after, the crew can come with me. … The crew is going to be the hardest thing to let go, because we are a family."
Seeing as Nina Dobrev's departure was also a pretty huge deal for vampire kind, all the signs do seem to point to The Vampire Diaries coming to an end, but what do you guys reckon?
