Ashley Sawyer, who appeared in the second series of MTV's Catfish in 2013 has tragically died of unknown causes at the age of 23.
"MTV is deeply saddened to learn that Ashley Sawyer has passed away," a spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement. "Our condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends."
She appeared on the docu-series, which aims to bring together people who think they might be being catfished online with the person they're talking to, after reaching out to hosts Nev Schulman and Max Joseph.
She wanted to meet her companion Michael Fortunato face-to-face, and when they did, they realised they were catfishing each other - but recognised their connection and ended the episode with plans to meet again.
Tragically one month after the episode aired, Fortunato passed away from a pulmonary embolism at the age of 26 - and in a recent Catfish catch-up special, Ashley revealed: "the last thing we said to each other was that we loved each other."
Speaking of her tragic death, Ashley's sister commented to MTV News: "We had a great relationship. I know she knows how much I loved her and she loved me, and I am so sad that she's gone. She was so funny, she could make me laugh on my absolute worst day. She was just a really fun person to be around."
Our thoughts are with her friends and family at this time.
