Nina Dobrev might have packed up her plastic fangs, bin bag cape and bottle of ketchup when she left The Vampire Diaries last year, but that ain't the last you've seen of her character Elena Gilbert.
Big fat SPOILER ALERT, but the season seven finale saw a sort-of-return from Elena when the mysterious villain of the vault enticed Damon with her voice, and according to TVD's executive producer, Nina was super keen to get involved with some vampy goings on again.
Oh, and then she went on to reveal that Nina will totally be back for the show's big finale, when it all comes to an end next season. YAY but also BOO.
When Elena's mystery voice appeared in the last episode, producers of the show told Nina they could easily string together the voiceover using material from previous episodes, but they also offered her the chance to record it fresh - and guess what? She was WELL up for it.
"She chose to do it in person which was great, because it was a nice little personal Nina visit," exec producer Julie Plec told TV Line.
Going on to spill the big plans for Nina's return, Julie continued: "It's what she and I kind of agreed on when she decided to move on, and it's what I've got in my head. Obviously things can change throughout time, if the show goes on longer, or if we all collectively decide it would be fun to bring her back earlier, and she wanted to.
"But in my opinion, she was very clear about what she wanted the next step in her life to be, and she's doing a great job of achieving that. So I'm sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end."
