If you've clicked anywhere near social media this weekend (and let's be honest: who hasn't?), you'll have caught a glimpse of all this Pokemon Go stuff and thought to yourself 'WTF is going on?' Which is where we come in with a handy little guide to explain it all. So whatcha waiting for Charizard?
What is Pokemon Go?
If you're anything like us, your childhood revolved solely around snacks, Capri Sun and collecting Pokemon cards. Or should we say, catching 'em all. Pokemon Go is the updated version of that, taking the form of a free iOS and Android app that let's you create an avatar, train, trade and battle Pokemon.
Why is everyone obsessed with it?
Rather than existing solely in a virtual world, Pokemon Go is so popular because it uses your phone location services and camera to make it happen IN REAL LIFE. You literally have to walk around your local surroundings collecting Pokemon characters and checking in to places for your character to move on the screen. HOW COOL?
How does it work?
Pokemon Go linked up with Googlemaps to use their technology to mirror the real roads you're walking in the game. When you find a Pokémon, the game uses augmented reality (AR) to make it look like said Pokémon is properly standing right there in front of you. WoOoOOOah.
Will I get addicted to it?
To quote Sugarscape's Lucy Wood: "I took a detour on the way to work because it told me I'd find a Pokemon".
So yes. Yes you will.
