Oh GOD it's all kicking off in the world of baking rn, isn't it? Earlier this week it emerged that the BBC had lost the rights to air Bake Off due to Channel 4 offering Love Productions (the company behind the show) a big bucks deal to do it instead.
But it backfired a bit when Mel and Sue decided their loyalty was with the BBC and decided to jump ship before Channel 4 got their hands on it - and now? Mary Berry has quit too.
She says she will stay with the BBC out of "loyalty". In her statement, she said:
"What a privilege and honour it has been to be part of 7 years of magic in a tent - The Great British Bake Off. The Bake Off family - Paul, Mel and Sue have given me so much joy and laughter. My decision to stay with the BBC is out of loyalty to them, as they have nurtured me, and the show, that was a unique and brilliant format from day one. I am just sad for the audience who may not be ready for change, I hope they understand my decision. I wish the programme, crew and future bakers every possible success and I am so very sad not to be a part of it. Farewell to soggy bottoms."
All this comes as a source at The Sun previously said: "Mary and Paul believe the show works because of Mel and Sue. It's always been the four of them together. They are all really close and constantly hang out together in between filming.
"They repeatedly talk about how they are a family and they both credit the show's success down to Mel and Sue as well as the format.
"Paul is currently in LA and hasn't had a chance to talk to Mary. But they have always said they are in it together."
Mel and Sue said in their joint statement that they were "saddened and shocked" to hear of GBBO leaving the BBC, adding: "We've had the most amazing time on Bake Off, and have loved seeing it rise and rise like a pair of yeasted Latvian baps.
"We're not going with the dough. We wish all the future bakers every success."
So there you go: is that the end of Great British Bake Off as we know it? Are you keen for it to succeed at Channel 4 or over it already? Discuss with us over on our Twitter or in the comment box below. THANKS.
