Peter Jackson confirms that The Hobbit will be a trilogy

Peter Jackson, the director of hotly anticipated flick The Hobbit, has revealed that he will add a THIRD film to the adaptation, making it a trilogy.

Peter Jackson announces third hobbit film

The adaptation of the well famous book by JRR Tolkien was originally planned to be split over just two films, but in a statement released yesterday Big Pete (can we call him that do you think?) announced that a third film will be added.

Peter – who also directed Lord of the Rings – wrote on his official Facebook page: "I'm delighted that New Line, MGM and Warner Bros are equally enthusiastic about bringing fans this expansive tale across three films."

"It has been an unexpected journey indeed," he added, "and in the words of Professor Tolkien himself, 'a tale that grew in the telling.'"

Yes, we totally agree. *ahem*

We reckon Big Pete and the rest of the crew and cast also just quite fancied another extended holiday in New Zealand (where the majority of filming takes place) too. Well, you would, wouldn’t you?

The first of The Hobbit films – starring Martin Freeman in the lead role of Bilbo Baggins will be released in December. Will you be going to see it?
