So what's it all about, then?
Well, it's basically a mash-up of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and a modern zombie horror film, meaning that your English teacher is either gonna love it, hate it, or feel really, really conflicted about it.
Weirdly enough, the movie does actually stay faithful to Austen's novel - it's just that Elizabeth (Lily James) is equally as skilled at kicking hordes of zombie butt as she is at owning all of her verbal battles with Mr Darcy (Sam Riley).
Anyone good in it?
LOADS. Lily James as Elizabeth, Sam Riley as Mr Darcy, Douglas Booth as the adorable Mr Bingley, Bella Heathcote as Jane Bennett, Matt Smith as Mr Collins. Oh, and Suki Waterhouse as Kitty Bennett.
What were the highlights please?
Every time the Bennett sisters joined forces and made us wish we were skilled in physical combat. Oh, and the battle between Mr Darcy and Elizabeth in the drawing room was definitely a highlight - alongside every second of Matt Smith attempting to woo Lily James on screen.
If it won an Oscar, it'd be for...
Making something work that - on paper, really *shouldn't* have worked. Is that an official award? We had no idea what to expect going into this one, but we've gotta say, we ended up enjoying every second.
But these bits should have been left on the cutting room floor:
Er, none of it. Maybe that one part that made us jump so much in the cinema we actually squealed. But hey, even that was good - we can't hate. Oh, and it was also the perfect length, running at just over 1hr 47 mins.
Any topless moments I should be aware of?
Nope, not that kind of film, we're afraid. Although Douglas Booth wearing a cravat should be enough of a draw for anyone.
Overall verdict :
We loved it, basically.
