Oh, nothing was off limits in Zayn Malik's Complex magazine interview. Not only was the fella more candid than ever when it came to discussing his reasons for leaving One Direction, but he also revealed why the frick he decided to ditch his surname when he went solo.
Yup - the artist formerly known as Zayn Malik (and, um, Zain Malik) now goes by simply ZAYN; and he reckons it's 'cos he wanted things to be more 'personal' this time around.
Now unless you're, like, Madonna (or Cheryl Fernandez-Versini when she feels like it) it ain't easy to go by your first name alone; but el Maliko reckons it just fits his vibe more now he's a solo artiste.
Explaining to Complex, he said: "It just fits me more. I don't know anybody who goes by the first name and their surname with friends and family. I wanted it to be more personal I guess in that sense."
So there you go. Nothing more, nothing less. He just kinda liked it.
ZAYN also reckons he was never 'emotionally attached' to 1D's work, telling the mag: "None of the songs that I wrote in One Direction were personal to me.
"Whenever we'd get an award or this or that, it was never something that I was emotionally attached to. Whereas with this, I am. I know what's going to happen. I'm going to be crazy ecstatic when that album drops. I'm going to be buzzing and I'm going to go out. I'll probably party with my friends and enjoy it."
What d'ya make of that then, eh? Give us a tweet over @sugarscape or drop a comment in the box below. That'd be lovely. CHEERS.
