Zayn Malik graces the cover of NME today with his chiselled jaw, glorious bald head and increasingly delicious eyebrows - but as we all know, there's far more to him than meets the eye.
So, inside the front and back page, here's 11 new things we learnt about Zayn Malik from his NME interview.
His 'Like I Would' music video is about growing up up North
His tell all NME interview reveals the music video for 'Like I Would' was shot in Manchester and 'dramatises all the stuff of Northern working class teenage life'. Zayn explains: "It wasn't like: 'I'm still Jenn from the block', it was more like: this is what I used to do. Go down the chip shop, hang out with my boys in the car park. We never set fire to cars, but.."
He's smokes a lot of marijuana
The reporter notes that Zayn smoked at least four joints of weed throughout the interview, with the ex One Direction singer explaining that it helps his creative process. He comments: "I've probably been smoking for a while. I don't wanna say when I started becasue I don't want to influence anyone else.
"It helps sometimes with the creative process, if you're smoking good weed. Don't panic, it's organic."
THE GRAFFITI ROOM MIGHT NOT EXIST ANYMORE
Speaking about Zayn's creative brain, self designed tattoos and habit of retweeting fan art, NME's journalist cites: "At one point, he had a graffiti room in his house." HAD? HAD? IT IT NO LONGER THERE?
He doesn't think One Direction hate him
Asked whether the other members of One Direction 'hate him', he replied: "who knows", before responding to whether they'd have a valid reason to with "I don't think so".
He shops at Homebase
The interview took place there, and Zayn explained: "It's a tribute to me granddad. I bought the bits from Homebase. I put it all together. I decided to turn it into a pub. I like f***ing around with the nail gun.."
He's 'very much in lust' with Gigi Hadid
The interviewer and onlooker comments: 'Gigi Hadid is also here, sat alongside Zayn's mainly American entourage, being fairly quiet fiddling with her iPhone. He bobs over to her and lavishes some of that smouldering attention. They seem very much in lust'.
He just *knew* he wanted to quit One Direction
Thinking back to the day he left the band, Zayn recalls: "I called my security and I was like: 'I need to sort out a plane, I want to go home.' I don't know how I knew, but I just did. So I chatted with my cousin. Listened to a few songs. Just..waited for my plane to come.
He's still not friends with Naughty Boy
Speaking about his connection to 'Mind of Mine' producer Malay, Zayn reveals: "With Naughty Bo, look, we just didn't get on. And we'll leave it at that. Malay is all about the music. And he's a very interesting person."
He's still close to Liam Payne
On the topic of One Direction, el Maliko says: "I'm still probably the cloest to Liam. We talk on the phone. He congratulated me on my single. Which was nice. I congratulated him on his Brit Award. It was a good chat. We hadn't met in a long time so we want to meet up. [I last saw him] probably before I left the band."
He tried not to let the media sh*tstorm around 1D consume him
"I think that's why it came across as being mysterious or detached. I just didn't want to get caught up in something that wasn't real. You can be the biggest band in the world for a certain time, but that ends"
He's got a very individual music taste
Zayn revealed he's a fan of lots of songs other people don't know about, commenting: "I'll still talk about songs with people - like, 'Haven't you heard this song?!' - and I'll put it on YouTube and it'll only have 6,000 views 'cause it's only known in the local area."
