Zayn Malik isn't just a musician. Part of his whole cooler-than-cool vibe is the fact that he always looks as though he's just stepped straight off the catwalk too, and a lot of that is down to his stylist, Jason Rembert.
He's the man responsible for taking Zeeehhnn from badger quiffs and baseball jackets to the Versace, boots and rings that you always see him in today, and in a new interview with Billboard, he's opened up about the evolution of Zayn's style.
Jason and Zayn have been working together on his wardrobe since the beginning of July, so he's the mastermind behind the subtle, toned down vintage vibe that El Maliko seems to go for these days.
Speaking about what he looks for in clothes for Zayn, Jason revealed that he keeps an eye out for "really great silhouettes, fitted pants and dark colours" – things like duster coats, bomber jackets, parkers and lots of leather are all perfect for him, as Zayn "feels comfortable in longer pieces".
For example, one of the most awesome things that Zayn's stepped out in recently was the graphic leather jacket he wore for his Mind Of Mine album release party in NYC, and Jason was behind that li'l discovery.
"That was Faith Connxion… I went through their lookbook and pulled this jacket, and the minute he put it on he fell in love," Jason spilled. "We were supposed to change for the party, but he had finished a previous performance in it and he didn't want to take it off."
Jason was in charge of styling both Zayn and girlfriend Gigi Hadid for his music videos too (no biggie), and he explained that both 'Pillowtalk' and 'iT'S YoU' went down very different wardrobe routes.
"'PILLOWTALK' was fashion-forward, futuristic and sexy, and that idea lent itself well to Versace. Both Zayn and Gigi mainly wore Versace (which Zayn likes to wear in general), and they looked amazing in it.
"This was my first time styling Gigi, but she's an amazing person, inside and out," he revealed.
"Then for "iT's YoU", we went a more classic route as opposed to trendy. I pulled from lots of brands that are more 1940s-inspired, so it was more nostalgic and we really took it back."
When asked to describe Zayn's personal style in words other than fit, super fit and ridiculously oh so fit, Jason replied: "Him. It's very much so him. From the overcoats to the t-shirts, it's all a collaboration.
"He doesn't want to be too high fashion, but wants to be masculine and clean. We talk about the looks, the direction he's going in, what he's liking at the moment.
"And right now we're just building on the palette he's into. Charcoal, slate gray jeans (he doesn't ever wear actual blue jeans), sick boots because boots are key to his look."
And any fan knows that Zayn's style has totally changed over the past few years, and Jason agrees.
"The first time I worked with him he wasn't as willing to take risks, and now he's really stepping out of his comfort zone a bit... As he grows musically, he grows style-wise. And he has such a strong work ethic, he's going to keep growing."
Awesome, although a teen tiny part of us will forever miss the Zayn who wore brightly coloured polo shirts and baggy jeans. Sigh.
What do you reckon to all of this, then? Pretty interesting to hear from the man behind the fashion? Let us know with a tweet to @Sugarscape.
