One Direction had some big competition for Best British Single, including Adele, The Wanted, JLS, Ed Sheeran and, erm, The Military Wives.

But the Directioners fought (and probably made multiple email accounts to vote again and again – no judgments) and their hard work paid off, because One Direction took home the Brit award!

After hugging everyone (and doing some very impressive jumping) One Direction made their way to the stage to collect their prize from Tinie Tempah.

Louis Tomlinson started off their speech by thanking, you guessed it, the fans: “Wow. We cannot believe we are stood here on this stage. I wanna start off by saying this award is for the fans, we would be absolutely nowhere without them so thank you so much.”

Liam Payne went off on a bit of a tangent and started talking about their tour next year, which is obviously very exciting, but not entirely relevant.

Niall Horan decided that he wanted to really emphasise the fact that the Brit Awards was for the fans: “Our fans are absolutely incredible and again, this one is for you.”

Meanwhile, Harry Styles looked like he was going to vom, big time.

The only (and we mean only) downside to it all was that the beautiful Zayn Malik didn’t get to speak. But we’re sure he didn’t really mind, considering he’s pretty quiet anyway. But still, it would have been nice.

Watch their acceptance speech below and look out for Louis face, at around the 2:14 mark; he was obviously in complete shock.
