Although the story of what happened hasn't yet been revealed, the Twittersphere nearly imploded after bandmate Josh posted a cryptic tweet, saying: "I love you georgey.....more than life itself :) josh xxx." [sic]
But George was quick to reassure fans that he's going to be alright, tweeting: "I'm fine just had an accident and won't be able to perform tomorrow, I will be fine in a week or so."
Unfortunately it looks like he won't be back on his feet quite yet and so the lads have been forced to cancel their Irish gig.
"So sorry to everyone in Ireland. I have had an accident so we won't be able to perform tomorrow so our gigs have been pulled. Sorry," he added.
Naturally the mysterious nature of his accident had everyone guessing what had happened, but it sounds like he's at least well enough to have JJ hand feed him grapes.
After the Twitter storm began, Mark Sutton from the lads' management decided put an end to the rumours that George was on his last legs.
"Ok, let’s put this to sleep I can tell you George had to attend hospital after receiving a nasty injury his not dead or dying as speculated," he tweeted. [sic]
"He's fine," George's dad added. "I'm sure he will fill you all in soon with the details, thanks for all the kind messages, now stop worrying!"
What do you think about all that? Got a get well message for George?
We'd imagine that Josh's reaction to the news involved adding some new sad faces and tearful expressions to his repertoire...
