Yesterday, One Direction posted a tweet on their official page, requesting any Directioners that have been hardcore enough to brand themselves as a 1D fan FOREVER, send their pictures in to be in with a chance of appearing in the upcoming One Direction movie.
OOH and ARGHH we cried. Let's run to the tattoo parlour and get the lyrics to Rock Me inked across our forehead right this second. While we're there, we'll get Liam payne's neck birthmark recreated on ourselves in ink, and then get Niall across our knuckles.
The band tweeted: "Have a real #1D tattoo? Show us! Submit a 90 sec YouTube video to firstname.lastname@example.org and show us why you should be in the @1D3Dmovie!", which was retweeted PRONTO by over 4000 fans, and favourited by another 6000. This social media lark is a bit mental really, isn’t it? However, the request caused some serious backlash from people baffled that the boys would promote the idea of young lasses getting 1D tatts.
One fan on their Facebook stated "Okay One Direction, I love you guys to pieces I really do, but promoting young girls to get a tattoo?". Another was outraged on Twitter, "Why would you encourage people to get tattoos that they'll regret in 10 years". A fair point, probably. We would definitely not recommend having Kevin the Pigeon in a loveheart tattooed onto your lower back.
Their PR and official spokespeople have confirmed that the tweet was a mistake on their behalf. "This tweet was posted in error and has now been removed. One Direction do not want to encourage any of their fans to get 1D tattoos." So whilst One Direction are cool with covering their own bodies with slightly crap homages to their life in the band, they don't want you guys doing the same. Capiche?
So instead of showing your dedication to 1D through tatts, let's just watch them talk about casual nudity instead yeah?
What do you think of getting 1D tattoos? Big mistake or hardcore dedication?
