As anyone who's graduated school (and for those of you who are on the cusp of it) will know, school is fairly pitiful at teaching you the important things in life.
Aside from being able to figure out the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle, the failures of modern education are abundant. These are the ten things school doesn't teach you.
1. What the heck taxes are.
Does anyone know? Will we ever fully understand?
2. How to apply for jobs/ace interviews.
Seeing as the purpose of school is to lead you to a good career, this is kind of an important skill to have.
3. How its okay not to be amazing at everything.
You're probably not going to be the top of the class in everything; in reality, you only need to find one subject you're really good at.
4. How to think creatively/problem solve.
When most school tasks involve applying a formula and getting the correct answer, life after school just doesn't pan out like that.
5. Personal finance.
Learning how to budget, how to apply for loans, and how to set up online bank accounts are something you're gonna have to figure out on your own.
6. Basic first aid.
You can name three different types of cloud but you have NO idea how to resuscitate someone in need.
7. How to negotiate.
Again, something you'll probably be doing a lot of in adult life. Knowing how to communicate with people is pretty crucial.
8. How to sustain healthy relationships.
Other than basic sexual health, there's literally no focus at all on the emotional aspects of being in a relationship.
9. Mental health and mindfulness.
Learning what to keep an eye on in your personal life is something that can make a huge difference later on.
10. How to fail. And how to keep trying.
School is all about jumping through every hurdle without every stumbling, but failing at something can actually teach you a lot more in life.
