UPDATE: It was beginning to seem like the day when we'd be able to write tweets over 140 characters would never come, but there's finally an official date for when the update will finally hit Twitter.
According to the Verge, Twitter will stop counting media links as part of your tweet's character count starting Monday, September 19th.On top of not counting links, Twitter will also start eliminating usernames from the count as well.
If you were to ask what's bugging us right now we'd tell you a) the fact we still haven't seen a high quality pic of Harry Styles' new hair, b) Helen from HR humming 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' incessantly and c) the daily struggle of fitting our tweets into a mere 140 characters.
Well now it seems someone's finally heard our prayers and sorted out at least one of our struggles. Yup - apparently Twitter is gonna stop counting photos and links in its 140-character limit, meaning we have at least 23 more characters to play with.
That's enough to say 'Liam Payne' two-and-a-bit times. Not baaaad.
Back in January, Twitter founder Jack Dorsey said the platform would loom for new ways for users to write longer posts; since the 140-character limit is from ye olden days of the humble text message allowing users to fit 'em into an SMS back in 2006.
Bloomberg have even quoted a source as saying we could expect the change within the next TWO WEEKS, which is pretty bloody exciting. Not saying we want it to become a platform for people to spout endless shit about their lives or anything, but another 23 characters is always nice.
