It's normal to have ups and downs in a relationship, but, if the more time you spend with your significant other the more stressed and unhappy you become, then you could be in what's known as a toxic relationship.
Because it can be quite hard to decipher whether your relationship is just going through a bad patch, or if it's completely and utterly beyond repair - here are seven warning signs that you should watch out for.
1. They're irrationally jealous.
Being a little protective of the person you care about is totally normal - but when that level of jealousy reaches a point where you can't even answer your phone without the other person getting in a mood, things aren't right.
2. They're passive-aggressive and unapologetic.
Rather than discussing how they actually feel with you, they completely shut you off and make you feel guilty about something you didn't even do. Not to mention, if THEY ever make a mistake - you will *never* get an apology.
3. You feel drained whenever you're around them.
Being in a relationship is supposed to make you feel GREAT. If spending with your boyfriend/girlfriend brings your mood down about ten notches, then that's a sure sign that something's up.
4. They make you feel insecure about your looks.
Whether that's making sarcy comments about your weight, your make-up, or your clothes - it's never okay for anyone to make you feel like crap in effort to exercise control over you.
5. They've come between you and your friends.
If your closest friends and family members are ALL warning you off a relationship, it might be time to keep an open mind when listening to what they have to say.
6. They're critical of everything you do.
They're not happy for your successes, and they're overly critical of your mistakes. There's no inbetween.
7. They bring out the worst in you.
If you find your own mood is starting to matching theirs - and if you start feeling just 'not like yourself' anymore, it's probably time to start making some changes.
8. They want control over EVERY aspect of your life.
If they're demanding your bank account details, your Facebook passwords, and your daily schedule - just so they can keep a 24/7 track on your movements, then you're better off without the stress.
