Les romance, more bromance

As much as we love a good romance, it's probably about time we took a moment for the most awesome bromances in literature. Nothing makes your heart melt more than two boys bonding over some epic quest to save the world or even just bonding to make it through high school, so check out our top 10 favourites including Harry Potter, The Fault in Our Stars, Blood Red Road and more below...

1. Harry and Ron from Harry Potter

It might not always be plain sailing for Harry and Ron, but despite the odd tiff, these two know that when the time comes, they will always be there for each other - whether that's for an eyeroll behind Hermione's back when she's having a go at the copying her Astrology homework or a battle with Voldemort for the future of society.

2. Will and Jem from The Infernal Devices

Is there anything Will wouldn't do to get Jem his medicine and help him stay alive after that whole being poisoned by a demon thing? NO, THERE IS NOT. And for that, these parabati are straight up, pure bromance. We can't even think about them without getting chills.

3. Gus and Isaac from The Fault in Our Stars

These two have a bond that runs deeper than your average friendship and even at the crappiest times, they're able to bring light and a whole lot of humour into each other's lives. Who wouldn't want a friend who lets you smash up their trophies when you get dumped and then take you round her house to egg her car?

4. Jack and Ike from Blood Red Road

This might not be the type of bromance you shout from the hilltops, but it's so subtle and understated, you can FEEL Jack's pain when something bad happens to Ike. Ready to jump in front of giant fanged sandworms for each other, they can laugh and joke their way through anything, but you know they'd do anything for each other too.

5. Frodo and Sam from The Lord of The Rings

Samwise Gamgee might not have ever wanted to leave The Shire, but after swearing allegiance to help Mr Frodo on his quest to save Middle Earth, there's nothing he wouldn't do for him. From putting up with Gollum to saving him from the Black Riders and the HORRIFIC spider, Sam is the kind of friend we all want, loyal and always trying to cheer you up.

6. Darcy and Bingley from Pride and Prejudice

Probably one of the most classic literary bromances, these two are fast friends and while the jovial, openly charming Bingley might seem the opposite of the cold and reserved Darcy, at their hearts they are very similar. Old friends, they'd do anything for each other and are fiercely protective when it comes to the ladies.

7. Sherlock and Dr Watson from Sherlock Holmes

This may have a little something to do with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, but even before their hilarious, crime-solving bromance, the book series set the foundation for their relationship. Sherlock might be the brains, but at the end of the day he could never do it without Watson, who's got the practicality to help him put the clues together.

8. Gansey, Ronan, Adam and Noah from The Raven Boys

While Gansey is the main figure who holds these four together, each boy is fiercely protective of the others. There's Ronan, the rich troubled one, Adam, the scholarship student with something to prove, and Noah, the watcher, who notices all but says very little. Together they are trying to solve a mystery, but will they have to sacrifice their friendship to do it?

9. Fred and George Weasley from Harry Potter

We know they are twins and all, but Fred and George are two halfs of the one of the best literary friendships of all time. Never without each other, they know exactly what the other is thinking and can always make everyone laugh. That said, you only have to see Fred's reaction to George having a run in with the Death Eaters to see just how much he relied on his brother and vice versa at the battle of Hogwarts. JK, we will NEVER forgive you!

10. Quentin, Radar and Ben from Paper Towns

Q might be consumed by his hunt for Margo Roth Spiegelman, but there's no way he'd ever solve things without his two closest friend. Ben might seem all about the jokes and the ladies while Radar's intent on making his millions, but they skip graduation to help Q with his quest and at the end of the day, are pretty awesome BFFs.
