The Indiana Jones 4 and Transformers star wasn't always so tough!

Shia Labeouf has been mostly acting pretty tough of late. Playing Indiana Jones' long lost son in the upcoming Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull meant plenty of leaping from moving vehicles, whip-cracking and general tomfoolery.

But when Shia first tried to break into movies nobody was convinced he could cut it as a tough guy. He was best known for starring in a Disney kids TV show in America so when he auditioned for a part in A guide to recognising your saints he knew he had to do something special to win the part.

"If I want a movie role badly enough, I've been known to punch my way through a wall. (The part) strongly appealed to me. I did one audition and they turned me down because they didn't think I was tough enough, I convinced them to give me another audition and I was determined to show that I wasn't this little Disney actor."
"So I walked in, looked around the room and said, 'This place is so clean and tidy. But I'm about to ruin it.' Then I started punching a hole in the wall. They seemed surprised but gave me the part."
"Just as well, really, because otherwise I'd have been the idiot who punched a hole in the wall and still didn't get the part."

Perhaps not something you should be doing in interviews for summer jobs but we're glad it got Shia into our multiplex!

What do you think of Shia's audition technique?
