You had some naked pics leaked on the internet a while ago. How do you feel about it now?
“If people see you nude, you go through a range of emotions. First: die of embarrassment. Then: don’t want to see people. Then: anger. And at some point it’s liberating. Nothing else can go wrong!”

It’s happened to other celebs, too…

“Yeah, I guess. Well it’s nice to have a group to go to. ‘Hi, my name’s Pete... and I leaked pictures on the internet!’” [Laughs]

I don’t fall in love quickly, but I’m definitely emotional

So what have you learned from it?

“That if you don’t want naked pictures of you to appear, don’t take them. I still don’t know how they got out, so I’m more careful with my stuff – I’m a bit less trusting.”

How has it affected you with girls?

“Well… I guess they know what kind of equipment they’re going to be dealing with. [Laughs]. They’ve had a preview!”

What are you like as a boyfriend?

“I don’t fall in love quickly, but I’m definitely emotional. When you get my attention, it’ll be my full attention – I’ll obsess over you! But I can be absent-minded, too. I cheat on people with the entire world! Not physically – but when you’re in a band, you have to be so many places.”

Are you good with girls?

“No. I have a really bad radar for knowing when a girl likes me. I’m always like, ‘Oh that girl loves me’ – and that girl is with her husband! Then I’m like, ‘Clearly that girl is not into me,’ and my friends are like, ‘Dude, that girl loves you.”

Do you do the groupie thing?

“I’m not opposed to meeting a cool girl, but casual sex isn’t my thing. The grass is always greener, though. When I’m single, I’m like, ‘I want to walk down the aisle.’ And when I’m in a relationship, I can’t wait to be single.”

Do you have a ‘type’?

“My perfect girl is… I think I know her, actually. I just want a girl who has figured me out. I want a partner in crime, like Bonnie and Clyde. The girl doesn’t have to be famous or whatever – I just want someone to go through it all with.”

Why’s this girl so perfect?

“Because she knows when to put up with my sh*t and when to call me on my sh*t. She’s the last thing I think of before I go to sleep and the first thing I think of when I wake up.”

Are you seeing each other now?

“No. Yeah, I mean we have gone out. She knows how I feel, but she just ignores it.” Are you talking about Ashlee? There have been rumours...[Laughs] [Long awkward silence]

There must be something going on?

“Um… I don’t know. I’ll be honest – I’ve been trying really hard to keep my personal life private, ’cause it’s ruined every relationship I’ve ever had. I don’t know… Ashlee’s a rad girl.”

So you do like her, then?

“She’s sweet, yeah, I guess that’s all there is to it. She’s sweet and cute, but you know…”

How about the rumours about [Demi Moore’s daughter] Rumer Willis?

“That one is totally out of the blue to me! I’ve met her once, maybe twice, so it’s completely not true. In all the stories that come out about me, my people are never saying anything.”

Girls leak stories?

“Yeah of course! It stuns me that the public don’t know that. Some of them I find really funny when they’re way off. But it bothers me when it affects a relationship – like we can’t go out.”

So it’s not so fun being the new rock ladies’ man?

“The rock ladies’ man. [Laughs] That’s the FIRST time I’ve been given that title. I don’t often get called a man, so that’s awesome! It’s weird, ’cause you’re trying to date people. You might be just hanging out, and suddenly you’re getting married.”

We’ve heard you snog boys too...

[Laughs] “Sometimes I’m like, ‘Oh this will be funny. It’d be so insane if someone took this to the press. Or when you’re like, ‘You girls should kiss.’ And they’re like, ‘You and Sam should kiss,’ so you say ‘OK!’”

So which celeb boy would you snog?

“Hmmm... [Thinks for a bit] maybe Johnny Depp? Am I’m aiming a little too high?”
