When you're watching your favourite dance movie do you feel the urge to spring out of your seat and join in?
Do your sofa cushions, like mine, double up as pom poms on a regular basis? If this sounds like you then it might be time to enroll in a class...
Spurred on by the release of the latest chapter in the cheerleading film series, Bring It on: Fight To The Finish we decided to take the moves out of the lounge and into the rehearsal room. Bring It On: Fight To The Finish features pop star Christina Milian as cheerleader Lina trying her best to overcome the odds to succeed in her sport. Here's a taste of the action...
Of course Lina overcoming the odds includes getting the guy and this time the guy in question is cutie Cody Longo soon to appear in Fame, we think he's a bit of a fittie, what do you reckon?

Taking on a bit of Lina's fighting spirit we decided to embrace our inner cheerleader and see if we have what it takes to swap our sofa cushions for actual Pom Poms.
Taking us through our paces were Ruth and Hannah Goulding, directors of the organisation Street Cheer which teach classes in street-dance style cheerleading throughout the UK. The girls took us through the basic moves showing us how to warm up, stretch out and even how to do some basic cheers, before finally letting us tackle a short dance routine.
Here they are giving me a demo:
The good news is cheerleading is not as impossible as it looks! Although at first it's hard to remember to actually move when you are counting steps (never mind smiling and cheering at the same time) it's really east to get into, especially when everyone around you is doing the same thing. The best bit is that it gets even easier once you've got your own Pom Poms (maybe that's because of all the practice with the living room cushions).
Street Cheer is a great way to keep fit because it teaches you dance moves and keeps you toned without having to get really sweaty," says Hannah. It's different from normal cheering in that it's more dance based and also it's got a bit of an attitude!" Adds Ruth.

So what do you think Sugarscapers, do you fancy giving cheerleading a try? Comments please!

Im a cheerleader lol) and the Bring It On movies are the best! Though FYI most cheerleading dont include pom poms for the most part...it's more focus on gymnastics, stunts and dance...i cant stnd people who say it is a sport...it's propa competitive and everything and so what the costumes are small?they have to be to allow the movement needed and so there isnt material to slip when you stunting...
