Not that she was complaining
With the Divergent movie FINALLY set to hit cinemas, it seemed about time to get our hard-hitting journalistic skills out for a bit of a chat with actors Shailene Woodley and Theo James. But as much as we tried to keep things serious, the conversation naturally ended up revolving mainly around snogging scenes and Theo thinking that Peeta Mellark off the Hunger Games is a girl.
We're sorry, we tried our best.
Now, one of our favourite things about Divergent is that despite being based in a dystopian world way off in the future, Tris's experiences with the ridiculously attractive Four are pretty relatable and actually, it turns out that the slow burner of a love story was one of the things that attracted Shai and Theo to the project.
"It was one of the things I fell in love with at first about the book," Shai told us. "Their relationship was a slow build, which is how I feel. You don't know somebody over night, especially if they're a lover or someone you want to involve yourself with intimately."
"I think that means that when they finally get together, they kiss, that it's earnt," Theo added. "It's a good pay-off rather than there rather for the sake of it in the movie as the perfunctory smooching scene, whereas you want it to happen because it's been a slow burner.
But all the professional stuff aside, it turns out that the big kissing scene was the one they thought about most in the movie and they even scrapped the first attempt to re-write and re-shoot it. Luckily Theo and Shai didn't seem to mind too much about having to repeat the scene and had time for some off-camera rehearsals to make sure it looked real too.
"Theo came over every night for two months beforehand," Shai joked, when we asked her if they had any sneaky practices off camera.
"I was contantly knocking on her door," Theo added, laughing.
Check out what they had to say, plus Theo and Shai acting as agony aunts for Ginny Weasley and Peeta Mellark below...
We're not quite sure Theo's advice for Peeta to take out Gale is something Four would condone, but what do you make of his and Shai's advice?
