we are *not* happy about this
Grey's Anatomy fans might want to prepare to be devastated - because Sandra Oh has revealed that she is to leave the show after eight years playing Dr Cristina Yang.
IF THEY DO A LEXI GREY ON HER WE WILL PROBABLY NEVER RECOVER. Just saying.
Sandra was one of the original cast members who began life on the show as interns and is much loved in her role as fiesty Cristina, best pal of the programme's namesake Meredith Grey.
OH GOD HOW IS MEREDITH GOING TO COPE WHEN SHE LEAVES??? Sorry.
Sandra admitted that it was her choice to quit the show, telling The Hollywood Reporter: "Creatively, I really feel like I gave it my all, and I feel ready to let her go.
"It's such an interesting thing to play a character for so long and to actually get the sense that she wants to be let go as well.
"Cristina wants to be let go, and I am ready to let her go. We have to start the process, story-wise, for the Grey's writers to think of why she's going to go."
It's not been revealed how she'll leave the ABC show at the end of it's upcoming 10th season, but we're going to state for the record right now that if she dies we're probably going to have to boycott season 11. Probably.
Sandra - who has been nominated for five 'best supporting actress' Emmy Awards since she began playing Cristina Yang - was thanked by the show's creator Sondra Rhimes who said: "One of the best days of my life as a writer happened the day Sandra Oh walked in my door to audition and forever changed the course of Grey's Anatomy with her brilliant, nuanced portrayal of Cristina Yang.
"This year is going to be bittersweet for us - we're both going to savour every moment of Cristina Yang, and then we're going to give her the exit she deserves. And when Sandra walks out of my door, Grey's Anatomy will once again be forever changed."
Sandra is said to have told her co-stars of her decision on Tuesday, after a reading for the 200th episode. In a statement, a spokesperson for ABC said: "It's our intention to have Grey's on the air for many years to come, with as many of the original cast as possible."
SAD. FACE. What do you make of this news?
