This doesn't even bear thinking about
One Direction might seem like one big happy family now, but things could have been very different after Liam Payne confessed that before he got it together with the lads, he actually considered quitting singing altogether.
No 1D song would be the same without Captain Sensible's husky tones, but apparently the struggle to make it in the music business was so tough that at times Liam considered giving up completely.
Having failed to get through X Factor as a solo artist the first time he auditioned, Liam carried on trying to find work with his singing back home. It wasn't easy though and after one particular gig, he considered throwing in the towel for good.
"Me and my dad travelled from Wolverhampton. I played for ten people for £50," he told the Sun.
"That had to be my worst gig - that was the last straw. I was like, ‘I’m not doing this any more dad, I don’t want to’.
“I’d have been turning 16. It was the day after my birthday. It was just terrible."
Luckily for us though, Liam kept the faith and after giving X Factor another shot, the rest is history really.
“I’m making the most of every second now," he added. "After that gig in Rhyl I nearly gave up because it was just embarrassing.”
In fact his life in 1D couldn't be further from what he had imagined and apparently if things hasn't worked out, he reckons he's have ended up doing a normal 9-5 job back in Wolverhampton.
We'd probably have a lot more to say about all this, but you'll need to excuse us while we go and THANK OUR LUCKY STARS that things didn't end differently.
But what do you think?
