One Direction, Kanye West, Madonna and more celebrities have taken to Twitter to mourn the loss of David Bowie, who sadly passed away last night aged 69.
The musical icon, who inspired so many with his fearlessness and fashion sense, died on january 10th following an 18-month battle. This morning, as the news was announced, stars paid tribute to David on social media explaining just how he shaped their lives.
You might remember One Direction and the class of The X Factor 2010 covered Bowie's 1977 hit 'Heroes' as a charity single in aid of Help for Heroes; and the boys were among those leading the tributes.
Harry Styles Instagrammed a black and white shot of David, saying: "RIP. David Bowie. An icon."
Niall Horan, meanwhile, said: "Very sad to wake up to the news of David Bowie's passing . He is a true music legend and his legacy will live on forever .." [sic].
Louis Tomlinson mourned the loss of the 'legend,' tweeting: "RIP David Bowie. A music Legend !" [sic].
Kanye West said he 'pray[s] for his friends and family, adding: "David Bowie was one of my most important inspirations, so fearless, so creative, he gave us magic for a lifetime."
Meanwhile Pharrell Williams said: "David Bowie was a true innovator, a true creative. May he rest in peace #RIPDavidBowie" [sic].
Madonna paid her tributes, saying David Bowie was the 'first concert' she ever saw and adding: "Talented . Unique. Genius. Game Changer. The Man who Fell to Earth. Your Spirit Lives on Forever!" [sic].
