Thousands of David Bowie fans have signed a petition in a bid to stop Kanye West covering some of the late icon's songs following his death last week. Sort of like they did that time he was announced as Glastonbury headliner and it all went ahead anyway.
It all started when the Daily Star reported that 'Ye was set to record versions of Bowie hits like 'Heroes' and 'Rebel Rebel' and, although we've never even had any confirmation he's gonna do it, almost 10,000 fans have put their name to Peter Piranha's 'Stop Kanye West from being allowed to record covers of David Bowie's music' petition.
Oh he's never one to cause a bit of controversy, that Kanye.
Basically a source told the Daily Star: "Some are straightforward covers with Kanye actually singing. On others he is rapping with his own lyrics over Bowie's music," though a rep's yet to confirm or deny the drama. Meanwhile, this Peter Piranha lad/potentially lass has branded Yeezy a 'talentless arsewipe' who 'couldn't lace David's boots.' OOF.
Upon hearing of David's death, Kanye tweeted: "David Bowie was one of my most important inspirations, so fearless, so creative, he gave us magic for a lifetime." [sic]. But if these 10,000 fans have got anything to do with it he won't be touching the classics. Hmm.
What d'ya make of that, then? Should people lay off Kanye or is this literally the worst idea of all time ever? Give us a tweet over @sugarscape or drop a comment in the box below, puhlease. CHEERS.
