Despite the fact that Zayn Malik has smashed more records than a herd of elephants running round a music store, it turns out he wasn't always feeling so confident about his solo stuff would be received by the world.
In a new interview with Beats coming out this week, he shared that the global attention surrounding his first single 'PILLOWTALK' was completely unexpected: "It was really surprising to me. I kind of didn't set out with the intention to be as successful as it was."
Adding that the fact it was so well-received has made him more confident about the rest of his ideas, he said: "When it did well I was surprising myself. With each thing I'm putting out I feel more confident and it gives me new ideas. I just take everything one step at a time."
Oh, and he also addressed the upper-case lower-case style writing on his tracklisting, which has proved fairly controversial: "We're getting mixed response with that. I like the way it looks so I just went with it but people are confused by it."
You do you, Zayn, you wonderful musical angel.
