STOP, WAIT A MINUTE. We're one-hundred-plus days into One Direction's hiatus, having being informed it's very much a HIATUS all along, and now Simon Cowell's gone and told Billboard magazine he's not sure if it's a 'breakup' or not. As in he doesn't know if Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne are ever gonna get back together again. As in SORRY WHAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW?
Yup - covering the latest issue of the music mag Uncle Si's been more candid than ever about the futures of the 1D boys; saying that in a 'weird way' he doesn't *want* to know if/when they're gonna reunite.
Asked if the boys have broken up for good, Simon responded: "I don't know if it's a hiatus or a breakup, to be honest. In a weird way, I don't want to know." You DON'T KNOW, Si? But we've explicitly been told it's a hiatus and have spent the last few months explaining to everyone what the frick 'hiatus' even means.
NOT TODAY, SATAN.
Completely glossing over this and pretending it isn't even happening, Simon also had all this to say:
On Zayn Malik aka ZAYN:
"Zayn is still signed to our company. But the boys hadn't bought into the fact that he was leaving, so out of respect for them, it wasn't the right thing to put him on Syco."
On when One Direction might actually get back together:
"They'll decide when they want to come back together."
On whether or not Harreh's recording a solo album:
"He'll work out what kind of record he wants to make because he's got great taste -- which is always a help. All the writers and producers want to work with him, understandably, but he probably won't rush into it."
On working with One Direction at first:
"[They were] a nightmare. They were like five puppies - really excited, loads of opinions, always wanted to hang out."
Louis Tomlinson added: "Simon was completely understanding when we told him we wanted to go on a break. Not once did he put any pressure on us.Most people would've tried to give us at least a nudge. But he didn't. That's a real reflection of his character. Once you get to know him, he's lovely and kind.
"I'm sure we were a nightmare. We were at the height of our immaturity, always running around and being mischievous. There were so many meetings where Simon had to snap us to attention, but he was very patient."
We don't even know what to say at this point.
What d'ya make of Simon's comments, eh? EVERYBODY STAY CALM and give us a tweet over @sugarscape, please and ta very much.
