Beyoncé's LEMONADE album is every media studies student's dream, is it not? It's a proper pop culture artefact and CHRIST has it caused some drama. Rita Ora's been accused of being the now-infamous 'Becky with the good hair,' Iggy Azalea ain't happy with the term 'Becky' being used at all and everyone's wondering whether or not it's actually about Jay-Z cheating.
Well now Bey's mum, dad and biographer person have all weighed in on the debacle and one thing's for certain; we're more confused than ever. OH FUN.
Bey's mum Tina hinted the album might actually be about Jay-Z and his rumoured infidelity, chucking a vid on Instagram with the caption: "Toast to lemonade❤️ B worked so hard on this project day and night ! It was soo important to her to offer something that would bring about healing and hope to the universe! No matter what you've gone thru in life you can always come out on the other side! ❤️" [sic].
Meanwhile her dad Matthew told E! News: "Let me tell you who she's talking about, can I tell you who she's talking about? She's talking about you.You put that in context for you personally. She's talking about you and everybody that is you, that's who she's talking about."
So are they actually autobiographical or what, eh Matty? "I think that's the beauty of her creativity and I think that's what makes it so special, is that it relates to everyone," he explained. "Every one of us have been disappointed before and have had to go through the grieving process of anger and, you know, disappointment and then acceptance and forgiveness. And I think that's why this again is touching so many people, because it's universal. Everybody can relate to it."
Beyoncé's biographer J. Randy Taraborrelli seems pretty certain it ain't about Jay, though. He told Cosmopolitan.com: "I do know from my studying of Beyoncé [that] her personality is such that if in fact she was actually having marital problems, she would not be sitting down writing songs about it for the nation to dissect and interpret. That's not who she is.
"She's too private a person to handle her marital dysfunction for the world to see and examine. More likely what she's doing is she's possibly writing about her mother's marriage and what she witnessed there. That sounds like Beyoncé."
What d'ya make of all this, eh? Give us a tweet over @sugarscape and check out more Bey-based stuff below, yo. Cheers.
