Guys, it's 2016 and we're writing about Matt Cardle.
Basically Ed Sheeran's being sued for $20 million for allegedly ripping off Matt's song 'Amazing' with his last single 'Photograph,' which isn't massively ideal.
Songwriters Martin Harrington and Thomas Leonard, the fellas behind Matt's tune released back in 2012, are accusing Ed of 'verbatim, note-for-note copying' and expect compensation in the form of 20 million big ones. Oh gahd.
According to The Hollywood Reporter the lawsuit claims that 'Photograph' is 'too similar to both the composition written by Harrington and Leonard as well as the version recorded by Cardle;' going on to say: 'The similarities go beyond substantial, which is itself sufficient to establish copyright infringement and are in fact striking.
'The similarity of words, vocal style, vocal melody, melody and rhythm are clear indicators, among other things, that 'Photograph' copies 'Amazing.''
Apparently the tracks share '39 identical notes,' but since we're not big on all that musical malarky call we can do is present the two songs to ya and see what you think.
Exhibit A: 'Amazing'
Exhibit B: 'Photograph'
Um, think how much pussy you're gonna get *shrugs*.
