5SOS bloody love The 1975. Remember, they were going on about how they're 'so important' for new young bands and stuff recently? So obviously, when The 1975 frontman fella Matty healy insisted his band isn't 'faddy' despite sharing fans with 5SOS, everyone was a bit confused. SURELY there's no beef there?
Well now Matty's taken to Twitter to deny throwing shade with said 'faddy band' comment; admitting he has 'big love' for the boys.
Responding to a fan who asked: "why would you say shit about 5sos, they've done nothing but praise you now you look ridiculous," Matty said: "wow I would never do that!! I think I must have been referencing their slightly younger demographic. Big love to @5SOS !!" [sic].
THANK GOD FOR THAT.
This all comes after Matty insisted The 1975 aren't a 'faddy band;' telling MTV: "One of the things that I love about The 1975 is now I've realized that we're kind of this gateway band. Gateway bands used to exist, but they were normally shitty - you know, bands that straddled between the truly alternative scene and the mainstream market.
"A soft, easy band for the kids to transition from the Backstreet Boys to f—in' Cannibal Corpse or whatever it may be. With us, of course we're gonna get a lot of kids who were into, I don't know, 5 Seconds of Summer. And then they get inside and they realise: I can stay here. I can grow with this band. This isn't a faddy thing. This isn't the Backstreet Boys. You're not being told to like us."
