Simon Cowell isn't best pleased about Liam Payne's new solo record deal with Capitol UK, let's be real. After admitting he was 'suprised' when the news broke the other week and hinting he was a bit pissed off Payno didn't stay 'loyal' to him, he now reckons it's 'annoying' he decided not to stick with SYCO.
Chatting to The Sun backstage at America's Got Talent over in Hollywood, Simon said: "It is a bit annoying if I am honest with you - mainly because it is a another label who has now got your artist who you worked with for so many years.
"But that is the music business, unfortunately. I don't think anyone else from the band will do that. We had spoken a lot - him and I - about what he wanted to do next.
"I was teasing him saying: 'If you come up with a great song Liam make sure it is for you and don't give it away. When you're ready I am ready.'
"So I was a bit surprised. Of course there is a part of you that goes: 'Maybe we should have had the conversation.' That maybe is my fault but it has happened now."
Simon's pretty excited about the prospect of solo Niall Horan, though. He added: "Look, business is business and it has got to be the right deal, but I am confident."
So all's stlll good with Harry Styles who signed with Columbia earlier this year, then? "I won't go into the technical detail but it was a deal which we encouraged.
"We spoke about this a long time ago and certain artists do prefer to be signed to an American label and he spends a lot of time over here. This was something we were very instrumental in and it was the result we all wanted so it was great."
