We have this weird relationship with Shawn Mendes. We feel proud of him like a parent, but fancy him like a significant other. DON'T ASK WE'RE JUST AS CONFUSED AS YOU. Anyway, the point is we went to see him last night at London's Eventim Apollo and couldn't decide if we wanted to mother or get with him. That's what we're getting at.
Now we've seen Shawn live loads; from that time he played to just 600 people at The Garage to his last tour at Shepherd's Bush Empire; and he just keeps getting bigger. Christ, even the biceps have basically doubled in size since he was last over.
So, since he scored his first UK number one with 'Stitches' earlier this year, has Shawn got what it takes to play to an audience of almost 4000? Let's find out.
Let's face it, guys, the Handwritten album's been out for a while. Obviously we still love hearing all the old faves live; but this time Shawn decided to switch up the setlist a bit with some brand spankin' new songs all set to be on the next album.
Not only did we get the classics like 'Life of the Party' and 'Something Big;' we also got new tracks 'Ruin,' 'Like This' and 'Three Empty Words.' They're all amazing and, yeah, we're gonna need that second album STAT.
What were the best bits, then?
Mate, where do we even begin? Fan fave 'A Little Too Much' was, as always, well emotional. He also slipped a couple of covers in there wherever he could ('Kid in Love'/The Jackson 5's 'I Want You Back' and 'Never Be Alone'/Plain White T's 'Hey There Delilah,' anyone?) and we FINALLY saw 'Act Like You Love Me' live.
That's one of the best Shawn songs, just FYI. We can die happy.
Any bits that weren't so good?
WE DIDN'T GET 'I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER' SHAWN WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE PLAYING AT WE WILL NOT FORGET THIS.
Granted, Camila Cabello can't pop out at every date. But still.
What you giving it out of five then, Sugarscape?
What d'ya make of that, then? Give us a tweet over @sugarscape after you've watched the vid below, yeah? YUP.
