Well luckily, only our nan uses that phrase so you should be alright love.
As much as we love Lorde with her crazy curly hair, seriously great songs and velvety vocals, you have to admit that she is a bit of a grumpasaurus rex when it comes to talking about the music industry, and particularly the ladies that dominate it.
She’s not one to shy away from slamming the whole ‘popstar’ thing, and has spoken out AGAIN against girls who strip off to get their music heard. Y'know, just to make double-triple sure that everyone knows she’s as real and as down to earth as beans on toast.
Talking to the New York Times about the laidback image she puts out with her music, Lorde once again blasted the girls who go for the whole ‘nearly naked, twerky Suzan’ vibe as part of their pop package.
“The phrase ‘teen hottie’ literally makes me want to throw up”, Lorde admitted. “I would like to think that my public persona comes naturally to me and isn’t that dissimilar to my real way of doing things.”
She revealed that it would be easy for her to do the sexy thing that girls usually go for, but she’s determined to be true to herself and her music: “I’ve turned down easily millions of dollars doing what I do and saying no to things that I think are corny.”
Bleh, the word corny is really gross, isn’t it?
She added: “I’m trying to make something people my age will care about, trying to keep my peers feeling like I’m doing something...for them or representing them in some way.”
Oh blimey, we imagine she’s probably managed to cross herself off the invite list for all the sleepovers that Katy Perry, Rihanna, Miley and Taylor have together, but we also imagine that Lorde couldn’t give a flying fudge about their girly hair-braiding and karaoke sessions. So there ya go.
What do you think of Lorde’s comments about the music industry? Admire her individuality and determination, or do you think she’s a bit of a broken record? Stick a comment in the box and have your say.
