If you’ve been wondering what McFly have been up to? Well here it is... in true rock'n'roll style the cheeky chaps have turned the rules upside down, they've quit their label and have set up their very own record company calling it Super Records – a suggestion of things to come maybe?
In the run up to the release of their hot sounding new single, we grabbed the awesome foursome for an in depth chat. The indie urchins revealed to us everything from fall outs with Lindsay Lohan to cracking up when they met The Queen. If that’s not enough we also have an exclusive message from McFly to Sugarscapers, read on to find out what it is…
You’ve been quiet for a while, we’ve missed you! Where have you been?
Dougie: Well we spent 10 weeks at the beginning of the year recording our new album in Australia which was an amazing experience. We left our record label at the beginning of the year as well so we’ve spent a lot of time making the new album and setting up our own record label.
That sounds like a brave step, why did you decide to set up your own record label?
Dougie: We basically wanted to take complete creative control over McFly and give ourselves an opportunity to do things a bit differently. We sort of felt like we were going through the motions a bit with the record label and we had the opportunity to leave so we thought it was perfect timing really. We ended up making the best album we’ve ever made in Australia.
How come you decided to record your album in sunny Australia?
Dougie: Our producer came up with the idea of recording out there and it worked out because of the exchange rate that it would cost just as much to record in London as it is to fly over to Australia and record the album. We rented an amazing house on the beach for 10 weeks. We just wanted to go away and have an experience as well rather than just going in and recording.
You must have met loads of celebs since you shot to fame, but have you ever been star struck?
Tom: Yeah quite a few times, we’ve all met a lot of our idols. Harry’s met a lot of his cricket idols and sporting idols. Danny’s met Roger Daltrey, I’ve met Greenday…
Dougie: Yeah we met The Queen! It was very funny; we got the giggles at the worst time. We were standing next to Cliff Richard and he was giving advice on what we should do. But I think we were just nervous.
Wow The Queen eh! What did she say to you?
Tom: Danny had a little chat with her actually.
Harry: You’re supposed to wait until she speaks to you. You’re just supposed to say Ma'am and then she says something so you can reply but you’re not supposed to talk to her. But Danny spoke before he was spoken to. He said: “You enjoy the show?”
Oh no really! Did she mind?
Danny: No, she just said to me: (he impersonates The Queen’s voice) “I’ve never been here before, this is beautiful isn’t it.”
