Might as well rock it then...
Zooey Deschanel has made a career out of being the quirky girl with massive eyes and a big fringe, who’s never quite fit in, and the actress admits that she often feels like an “outsider” in real life too.
“I’ve always felt like an outsider and I still do when I go to fancy events. I still sit there and think, ‘I don’t belong here.’ I feel like a kid at the adults’ table – like I’m an outsider who got let inside somehow,” she said to Cosmopolitan.
“It’s not a bad thing,” she continued. “It’s just that I see everything differently. I take all the glitz and glamour of this business with a large grain of salt. I feel very removed from it. Not in a bad way – it’s cool – I just don’t feel a part of it.”
Despite being a massive dork, Zooey reckons that she still feels pretty confident most of the time – just don’t ask her to turn her swag on.
“I’m not shy. I have a strange sort of combination of awkwardness and confidence. I’m actually OK with awkward moments. But it’s not because I think I’m so great. I’m confident in things other than, like, my ‘swagger’. I’m confident in my sense of humour. I’m comfortable in my skin.”
Yeah, we’ll leave the swagger stuff to Cher Lloyd and Louis Walsh, we don’t really get it either.
Are you a fan of Ms. Deschanel? Love her awkwardness?
